Key takeaways from Telecoms World Middle East 2023

In the context of a strong digital transformation in MENA, The Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai hosted a new edition of Telecoms World Middle East during May 30th and 31st. The event gathered telecom operators, merchants and other key players of the technological industry under the same roof to address the current situation and future steps of the unstoppable digitization in the region. Our team took the opportunity to showcase our offer and enhance the opportunities to democratize the access to digital content and achieve financial inclusion.

Two full days, more than 1500 attendees, over 100 speakers and 50 exhibitors. Telecoms World Middle East celebrated in The Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai its biggest edition to date during May 30th and 31st, bringing together some of the most innovative companies across the MENA region’s telco industry.

From content distribution and 5G, to digital economy, virtualization and cybersecurity, every hot topic around the digital transformation of MENA was covered in the gathering. Our team had a visible representation with a booth showcasing Digital Virgo’s offer to help telcos and content creators and distributors boost their revenues, acquire new users and retain clients. Representatives of the company from all over the region flew to Dubai to meet with partners and discuss the near future opportunities.

“Telecoms World Middle East was the perfect opportunity to engage with our partners in the region such as Etisalat, Du, Ooredoo, Zain and many more. Addressing monetization, payment gateways via DCB and the future of content distribution was of great interest to understand where the business is heading”

Second Screen TV’s Phenomenon

During the first day of the event, Digital Virgo and its most recent partner, LaLiga, sat down with Tair Ismailov (Strategic Engagement Director at GSMA) in an interview to discuss one of the current trends in content consumption, the second screen phenomenon. Frederico Rosato (Digital Virgo Group Sales Director) and Luis Cardenas (Head of Partnerships Middle East & Africa at La Liga) talked about what sociological and technological changes have boosted this new trend, and what challenges and opportunities does this have for telcos and merchants both regional and international. During the interview there was also time to present LaLiga Xtra, a second screen application in which both companies have collaborated to create a hub for football fans with statistics, videos, live results and many more features that have an added value to watching the matches on TV.

Telcos collaborating with content providers

Just two hours later, one of the main attractions of the first day of event brought together Pascal Dufour (Vice President MENA & Turkey at Digital Virgo), Isabelle Hajri (CMO at Ooredoo Algeria) and Markus Golder (CEO at Intigral) to discuss how telecom operators and content providers can work together in the panel: Telcos collaborating with content providers: Disrupting business models, growing market share and boosting data and customer numbers.

The roundtable attracted a large number of visitors, who were eager to discover how this collaboration not only disrupts business models but boosts customer bases and retention. The experts debated about how the market has changed and evolved and how will it look like in the next couple of years, considering the fast changes that the digital transformation is bringing to the region.
