Digital Virgo’s Strategic Panels at MEF Leadership Forum
On November 13th, alongside AfricaCom, we participated in the MEF Leadership Forum Africa, organized by the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF). Our team contributed to two key strategic panels during the event, showcasing Digital Virgo’s leadership in Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) and financial inclusion.
“Understanding the DCB Landscape in South Africa”
This panel focused on the unique dynamics and growth opportunities within the Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) sector in South Africa. Cilliers Niemann, our Sales Account Manager for South Africa, highlighted the strengths of Direct Carrier Billing, particularly its ability to provide accessible digital services to unbanked populations. He also emphasized the critical role of compliance in fostering a sustainable ecosystem, noting the importance of collaboration between all ecosystem players, from operators to content providers.
“Indeed, the sustainability of the ecosystem relies not only on the regulator but also on all players and in particular digital content providers to implement and practice compliant operations.” Cilliers Niemann, Sales Account Manager, South Africa
This highlighted the need for proactive cooperation among stakeholders to adapt to local regulations and effectively meet users’ needs.
“Women in Payments in Africa”
The second panel spotlighted the role of women in the digital payment industry, focusing on their empowerment through services like DCB and mobile money. These services have significantly contributed to financial inclusion across Africa, enabling women, to participate more actively in the digital economy.
Mounia Terhzaz, General Director for Africa at Digital Virgo, participated in the panel and emphasized the importance of creating secure, user-friendly, and localized solutions to further support women as both consumers and contributors within this ecosystem.
“Digital financial services like DCB and mobile money have empowered women across Africa, particularly in Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa. To further empower women as consumers of these services, the industry must focus on providing easy, secure, and accessible digital payment solutions as well as localized services.” Mounia Terhzaz, General Director for Africa
MTN Recognition: Digital Virgo’s Awarded as the Best Partner in Digital Services
A standout moment during this week was our recognition at the Digital Partner Connect, where MTN Group honored us as the “Best Partner for Digital Services”. This award reflects our dedication to delivering innovative solutions across more than five MTN territories, supported by a diverse catalog of digital services. It also highlights the strength of our collaboration with MTN and our ability to adapt to local market needs.
In addition to the panels and recognition, AfricaCom was a key opportunity to strengthen relationships with existing partners and establish new ones. Through various afterwork events and meetings, we shared expertise, discussed market trends, and explored new opportunities for collaboration.
