Enabling mobile payment for public transport tickets

Atac chooses Digital Virgo to integrate Mobile Payment in its public transport tickets

Our partnership with Atac, public transport company in Rome continues to grow! After integrating carrier billing to its parking services, we are now enabling Mobile Ticketing to its public transport ticket service. With “SMS&GO”, the customers of TIM, Vodafone and WINDTRE can pay for their tickets easily and securely with their phone bill. Discover how we connect these key players through our DV Ticketing platform.

How does SMS&GO work?

Atac’s new SMS&GO sales channel, developed with DV Ticketing solution from Digital Virgo Group, will be available to all the customers of TIM, Vodafone and WINDTRE and will allow the purchase of a ticket using their own phone credit.

By sending an SMS with the word “BIT” to Atac’s unique number 48018, users will immediately receive an SMS on their smartphone containing a link with the ticket in QR Code format. The ticket received must be validated and can be used for 100 minutes and for one journey, on all means of transport within the territory of Roma Capital, including metro, bus and regional trains. The SMS received with the ticket can be forwarded, but will no longer be usable once the link is opened.

SMS&GO is easy to use, convenient and secure. The cashless & touchless purchase method allows users to travel without having a credit card. It also helps the environment: purchasing dematerialized tickets reduces paper consumption.

Until 30 September 2021, the first SMS&GO ticket is free. Customers who decide to use the new purchasing channel for the first time pay neither the cost of the ticket and neither the cost for the service.

Global strategies to enhance the payment

In addition to offering SMS Payment, we have accompanied Atac in the implementation of the service through a global strategy to get the most out of the new mobile payment method.

Our advertising and user acquisition experts have developed the creative campaign to attract users with the main objective of boosting payment via SMS. Addressing payment in its entirety is part of our DNA. That’s why we take into account the specificities of our partners and consider strategic aspects such as monetization, local adaptation or digital marketing.

This new partnership with ATAC consolidates our position as a leader in carrier billing strategies for the Mobility ecosystem in Italy. We are pleased to offer alternative payment solutions that help our clients – transport companies – and our partners TIM, Vodafone and WINDTRE to increase their revenues while improving their customers’ experience.
