Digital Virgo Marks 20 Years in Africa and Shares Its Vision for Growth from Morocco  Digital Virgo Marks 20 Years in Africa and Shares Its Vision for Growth from Morocco

On October 29, 2026, Digital Virgo brought together the press in Casablanca to reflect on two decades of development in Morocco and across Africa. Led by Manuel Cruz, Co-founder & Vice-President, and Mounia Terhzaz, Regional CEO Africa, the gathering highlighted Morocco’s role as a hub of expertise and the Group’s priorities for 2030.

Since establishing its first African presence in Morocco in 2006, Digital Virgo has expanded to more than 20 countries across the continent. Throughout this journey, its focus has remained consistent: connecting telecom operators, content providers, media and creators to make digital services more accessible through adapted distribution, payment and monetization solutions.

The press gathering offered an opportunity to look back at this development and discuss how the Group intends to build on its Moroccan foundations.

Morocco: A Hub of Expertise Connecting African Markets

With nearly 70 employees in Morocco and more than 150 across Africa, Digital Virgo combines shared expertise in Casablanca with teams close to local markets and partners.

Its Moroccan hub brings together capabilities in product development, localization, technical support, data, digital marketing and UX/UI. These complementary skills help the Group design and deploy services while adapting them to different languages, user expectations and payment habits.

“Over twenty years, Morocco has evolved from an entry point into the continent into a true hub for managing operations and driving innovation across Africa. This anniversary is both a tribute to our history and a commitment to the future,” said Manuel Cruz, Co-Founder & Vice President.

Today, Digital Virgo works with 30 telecom operators across Morocco and Africa, representing a potential addressable base of 682 million subscribers.

Turning Expertise into Access to Digital Services

The discussions also highlighted projects that illustrate how this expertise translates into services for users and opportunities for partners.

Over the past ten years, Digital Virgo has helped generate more than €750 million in value across African digital economies. This contribution includes revenues for telecom operators, media and local cultural players, supporting both local creation and the development of digital ecosystems across the continent.

In Morocco, MTTV, developed for Maroc Telecom, brings together 85 television channels and 2,500 on-demand titles. Hekaya Shorts showcases local storytelling through 19 short-form series and more than 800 episodes, including six original productions in Darija.

Across Africa, Digital Virgo supports the distribution of international services such as YouScribe and Busuu, adapting offers and payment methods to local markets. Direct Carrier Billing and Mobile Money help broaden access to educational, cultural and entertainment services.

Sports provide another illustration. For the 2026 World Cup, applications developed and operated by Digital Virgo enabled partner operators to offer all 104 matches on mobile, with a potential reach of nearly 100 million subscribers.

Looking Ahead to 2030

Building on these foundations, Digital Virgo outlined five priorities: developing talent, supporting creative industries, advancing digital inclusion, accelerating pan-African development, and expanding its capabilities in innovation and artificial intelligence.

A central ambition is to double its workforce in Morocco by 2030, strengthening expertise in technology, data, product and digital marketing. The Group also intends to help Moroccan creators and publishers reach new audiences and generate revenues through its technology, payment solutions and operator partnerships.

“Our Moroccan roots are our strength. They allow us to design services adapted to local realities while deploying them across the continent. The next twenty years will be written with Moroccan and African talent,” said Mounia Terhzaz, Regional CEO Africa.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup represents a further opportunity to connect operators, media and content providers around new digital experiences, building on the Group’s experience in mobile sports distribution.
