Digital Virgo chosen to Manage and Grow Expresso’s Mobile Payment Offer in Senegal

Expresso, a leading mobile telecommunications operator and technology provider in Senegal, has joined forces with Digital Virgo, key player of the Mobile Payment ecosystem, to manage its Direct Carrier Billing offer in the country. The partnership will allow Expresso users to enjoy digital services by paying online for their subscriptions via their postpaid phone bill or prepaid SIM card.

By cooperating with Digital Virgo and complimented by their recently launched 4G network, Expresso goes one step further on the consolidation of a sustainable and efficient profitability provided by Direct Carrier Billing (DCB).

DCB is an ideal payment solution for Senegal where only 3% of the population owns a credit card whereas the majority possesses a smartphone. It is a fast, convenient and secure payment method, allowing users to pay for their digital services through their postpaid phone bill or prepaid SIM card. In this way, merchants offer alternative payment methods for premium services, while mobile operators increase their revenues.

“This new partnership is an opportunity to continue our expansion in Africa, where mobile operators are becoming the main entry points for accessing entertainment and other digital services – such as Ticketing for Urban Mobility. The low penetration of credit cards and the high smartphone ownership consolidate Carrier Billing as the ideal payment method for the key players of the mobile ecosystem. We are delighted to be working with Expresso and really look forward to growing the DCB business together.” Frederico Rosato, Pre-Sales and Payment Sales Director at Digital Virgo

“We are very excited to start this collaboration with Digital Virgo. We are happy to accompany this partnership with the recent launch of Expresso 4G network in Senegal which will enable our customers to enjoy a premium streaming experience for Video, Music, games and more of top-class digital content. Digital Virgo connections with premium merchants, combined with their knowledge of the African local specificities and the global DCB business, give us full confidence in them. In addition, their cutting-edge DV Pass technical platform made the integration process smooth, which was one of the most important requirements for us.” Mustafa Abdelmalik, Digital director at Sudatel Group
